Spend quality time with our cats by playing, brushing, cuddling, and helping shy cats build confidence around people. Your attention helps prepare them for successful adoptions. This could happen throughout the week at our Rockaway Mall and PetSmart adoption centers, or Sundays at our Roxbury Mall adoption center (18+ for Animal Handling)
1+hr per week
Help increase awareness of our mission by participating in community events, distributing information, and building relationships with local businesses and organizations. Perfect for outgoing volunteers who enjoy connecting with others.
2–4 hours per month, plus occasional special events
Provide our dogs at our adoption center with much-needed exercise, enrichment, and one-on-one attention while they wait for their forever homes. Regular walks improve both their physical health and adoptability. The Roxbury adoption center is open Wednesday and Friday evenings, as well as during the day every Saturday. As handlers gain more experience, they can also act as one on one handlers for adoptable dogs at off site adoption events. (18+ yrs for animal handling, training required)
2+ hrs per week
Help plan, organize, or assist with fundraising campaigns and events that provide critical support for our rescue. Whether behind the scenes or working events, every effort makes a difference.
2–4 hours per month, with additional time before major events.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and healthy environment for our animals, volunteers, and visitors at the adoption centers by assisting with routine cleaning and organizing tasks. This will be especially important after any type of open house or adoption event.
1-2 hours per week
Research grant opportunities that can provide funding for veterinary care, supplies, and rescue programs. Strong research skills are helpful, but enthusiasm and attention to detail are even more important.
2 hrs per week
Keep our Flanders kennel property looking its best by helping with mowing, weeding, landscaping, seasonal cleanup, and other outdoor projects. A welcoming environment benefits both our animals and visitors.
2–4 hours per month, seasonally
Put your handyman or trade skills to work by helping with repairs, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, or other maintenance projects around the three rescue properties. Your expertise helps us save valuable resources.
Varies by project, typically 2–4 hours per month
Help safely transport animals to veterinary appointments, foster homes, adoption events, or other approved locations. We also use volunteers to meet rescue transports to bring the animals home for the last leg of the journey. A valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and flexibility are required. (18+ for animal handling)
1–6 hours per trip
Assist with planning, soliciting donations, organizing baskets, setting up, or working one of our biggest fundraising efforts, held in combination with multiple events throughout the year. It's a fun way to support the rescue while meeting fellow animal lovers.
2–3 hours per month during planning, plus event days
Open your home to a rescue animal by providing temporary care until they find their forever family. Fosters give animals a safe, loving environment while freeing up space for additional rescues. Please visit our Foster page for complete details and a separate application.
Daily care for the duration of the foster placement
Do you have a special skill or professional service to share? Whether it's photography, marketing, legal services, accounting, construction, graphic design, veterinary care, or another expertise, your talents can make a lasting impact on our rescue.
Varies based on your availability and the project's needs
Host a donation drive through your workplace, school, community group, or neighborhood to collect much-needed supplies or monetary donations. It's an easy way to involve others in supporting our rescue.
Approximately 3–6 hours to organize and promote a drive over several weeks.
Help keep our rescue running smoothly by assisting with data entry, filing, email, recordkeeping, and other behind-the-scenes administrative tasks. Many of these opportunities can be completed from home on your own schedule.
2hrs+ per week
Represent our rescue at adoption events by greeting visitors, answering questions, setting up displays, and introducing adoptable pets to potential families. Most events take place on weekends. (18+ for Animal Handling)
3-4 hrs per event, at least one event per month
Review adoption applications, verify references, and help match approved families with our pets. This flexible role can be completed from home whenever applications are assigned.
2-3+ hrs per week
